Donald Trump’s candidacy plays into the hands of China’s propaganda apparatus, which seeks to portray the United States as bigoted and unstable. Already there are subtle signs China’s leaders are rooting for Trump to win. Possibly they’d prefer the flacid flexibility of Trump to the rigidity of Hillary Clinton, who has been outspoken in criticizing Beijing on human rights abuses.
